Dementia – What it is and what you can do
For Dementia Action Week, Michelle Ford is joined by Emma
Bateman from Trinity Homecare to explain what
dementia really means - a term describing symptoms caused by a
range of brain diseases, including Alzheimer’s. They discuss
early signs such as forgetfulness, changes in routine and
behaviour, and how symptoms can often be masked. Emma stresses
the importance of trusting your instincts and speaking to a
GP, as some conditions can present similarly. The episode also
shares simple, practical ways to support someone at home -
from labels and visual cues to using contrast to make everyday
tasks easier. Emma offers compassionate advice on responding
to confusion or hallucinations, explaining why reassurance is
often more helpful than correction.
A clear and supportive guide for anyone navigating dementia.
