For Dementia Action Week, Michelle Ford is joined by Emma Bateman from Trinity Homecare to explain what dementia really means - a term describing symptoms caused by a range of brain diseases, including Alzheimer’s. They discuss early signs such as forgetfulness, changes in routine and behaviour, and how symptoms can often be masked. Emma stresses the importance of trusting your instincts and speaking to a GP, as some conditions can present similarly.The episode also shares simple, practical ways to support someone at home - from labels and visual cues to using contrast to make everyday tasks easier. Emma offers compassionate advice on responding to confusion or hallucinations, explaining why reassurance is often more helpful than correction.
